La Capseta de Música

The parents' corner

It's the place where we can adapt to your tastes, to the situations where you use La Capseta and to your child. Since your child can't talk or tell us what they want, we hope you'll do it for them. You open it with a double tap (so the child can't open it by accident) on the Settings icon, which you'll see at the end of the cover, in the top left corner of the screen. All the options are saved: the music box remembers them next time. When you leave, play time starts.

Some options only exist in the music boxes for one age: we say so for each one.

Language

Catalan (by default) or English. It changes the texts for parents: notices, help and settings. The songs don't change.

Duration

How long each session lasts. Very important: no session is unlimited, they all end by themselves, gently. You may wonder why we do it this way. It's simple: it isn't a good idea for a child, of any age, to stay "hooked" on a phone for too long. Paediatric associations recommend limiting its use, and that's what we do. And since we know it's sometimes very hard to take the phone out of their hands, we do it for you: when the time you've chosen is up, La Capseta goes to sleep and switches itself off.

Routine

Routines are our plan for each La Capseta session. They're your way of telling us how you want the session time to be split: with pictures or dark, calmer or livelier, and the volume. There is always one; by default, Free. The routines are explained in How it works. Have a look.

Dark mode

Some parents don't want their young children to have any contact with a phone, and that's fine with us. For them, dark mode offers an alternative: listening to the songs, and only the songs. The screen stays black while the music plays, like an old-fashioned music box. The child doesn't see or touch anything: they just listen. The device can stay far away, on the bedside table, and the music box stops by itself when it ends. Only in the baby and toddler music boxes. It's a great help for getting the child to sleep.

It's actually a shortcut that chooses a fully dark routine, but that's a technicality. The screen may turn off by itself and, if you turn it on (this is important), try to be away from the child. You'll see the title, small, and the Exit button.

Background colour

The colour behind the picture. Each music box has its own palette: five colours that come from the app's colour, from the darkest to the lightest. By default, the middle one. Having a palette for each app lets us make pictures especially for it.

Why you can't choose just any colour: The colours.

Skip the magic animation

Yes or no. The magic animation shows parents how the music box works. Once you know, you can skip it: the theme tune will play instead, and then play time starts. You can also turn it off with the "Don't show this again" box next to "Start". If you want to see it again, turn it back on here.

Go straight to play

To make the start screen as short as possible, for when the child is crying. You can only choose it when the start screen has nothing left to tell you: you've seen the help, the notices no longer appear and the magic animation is off. Then the start screen lasts a few seconds, without music, just so you can open the settings. The checks are still done. If you turn the magic animation back on, this option is turned off.

Reduce motion

If the device has "Reduce Motion" on (in the device Settings, under Accessibility), the music box respects it. Here you can choose:

With reduced motion, the picture moves as little as possible, but never stops completely.

The child's age

(Coming soon.) If you wish, you can enter the child's age in months, from 0 to 36, or "over 36". The music box adapts to it: the size of the picture and the speed of the movement. It's optional, stored only on the device and moves on by itself over time.
